Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Aviation) with Honors – UTM
- Aerospace engineering is the primary engineering field concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. It has two main and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Avionics engineering is similar, but it deals with the electronic aspect of aeronautical engineering.

Student’s future after graduation
- Graduates of these programs are mainly mechanical engineers but aerospace engineering specialists who can easily find employment opportunities in various sectors. Alternatively, they can also be known as aeronautical engineers depending on their jobs in the industries they work in. The Aeronautical Engineering program was first introduced by UTM during the 1980/81 session, and is jointly administered by UTM and TUDM. Its objective was to meet the need for skilled and semi-skilled human resources in the field of aviation and especially in the public sector. TUDM required human resources to operate, maintain, repair, supervise and manage different types of aircraft, and UTM had the potential to produce graduates in this field. This need has continued to increase with the development of the aviation industry in Malaysia which requires more trained manpower especially engineers and technical assistants.
- The Aeronautical Engineering program at UTM is offered as a major in mechanical engineering and covers five main areas of aerodynamics, aircraft structure, flight dynamics, control and propulsion, and aircraft design. Thus, graduates of this program fulfill the requirements for graduation as an engineer in mechanical engineering as well as in the field of specialization in the field of aviation. The Department of Civil Aviation requires trained manpower to oversee aviation activities in Malaysia. Other organizations that require graduates in aviation include Malaysia Airlines System, Air Asia, SME Aviation, Malaysian Helicopter Services, Air Unit. Many other companies also have job opportunities in the aviation industry.
- In the field of academic and research opportunities are available for aeronautical engineers to work in any institution that provides courses and research in the field of aviation. Many other universities and institutions in Malaysia have started offering programs in the field of aviation as well. Due to the rapid expansion of the aviation industry, many airlines, aviation clubs and companies are willing to actively participate in the aviation industry of the country by offering more job opportunities to UTM graduates.
